The Cerro Coso Community College Band will present their Spring Concert on Thursday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the College Lecture Center. Two talented young musicians will be featured soloists for the event.

Rachel Williams, flute, is a native of Ridgecrest and a senior at Burroughs High School. She began playing flute in 5th grade, playing with her Middle and High School bands, as well as the Desert Community Orchestra and in pit orchestras for both school and community events. She has earned three Command Performances at Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association festivals and is a recipient of the Peter Pinto Memorial Scholarship this year, hoping to continue playing with community and school groups. She plans to attend Montana State University in the fall and ultimately wants to become a veterinarian. Rachel is the daughter of Marc and Susan Williams.

Nick Lukefahr, tuba, is from Saint Peters, Missouri and is an Aerospace Engineer. He started playing trombone in 6th grade, progressed to tuba, and went on to earn first place ratings in solos and ensembles in Missouri State Solo and Ensemble Festivals. In high school, he played second and first chair tuba in the Metro 8 Saint Louis District Honor Band and first chair in the BiState Honor Band. In 2013, Nick was selected to the Missouri Music Educators Association All Collegiate Orchestra. Nick played with community bands in Missouri and plays multiple instruments with the Desert Community Orchestra and Cerro Coso Community College Band.

Directed by Debra Veit, the concert will feature classic Sousa marches, Holst’s Second Suite and a patriotic medley. Movie music will be featured along with a little rock and roll – something for everyone!

The concert is sure to be fun for the whole family and the public is invited to attend for FREE.

Doors open at 7:00 p.m.
