Heading into the top of the 6th inning, the Coyotes were in control of the San Bernadino Valley College Wolverines. Leading 3-2, Freshman Eric Larsen (Eldorado HS) had just delivered a pitch that forced a ground ball, and from that moment on the game slipped away. The ball took a huge hop over second baseman Miguel Gonzalez (FR/Buena Vista HS) and began a four run inning for the Wolverines. San Bernadino followed up that with a 6 run seventh inning, taking a commanding lead that would never be relinquished with the Wolverines winning the game 12-3.

A leadoff double by Trevor Johnson (FR/Silverado HS) got the momentum swinging in the Coyotes' way from the first inning. Two consecutive batters, Kesean Neighbors (FR/Centennial Corona) and Kevin Maxey (SO/Long Beach Poly HS) , put the ball in play to move Johnson and give the Coyotes the lead 1-0. The Coyotes were able to manufacture two more runs in the fifth inning as Maxey reached base on an error, eventually being batted in by red hot Chad Butler (FR/Redlands HS) . Harrison Greenhough (SO/Unionville HS) sent a towering shot to deep left field that hit the top of the fence and stayed in play for a double and moved Butler to third base.

Another strong pitching performance from a starter was had by Larsen as he pitched 5 innings only allowing 3 runs against one of the conference's top teams. Larsen had control of the inside and outside of the plate, getting ahead early in the count and forcing Wolverine batters into ground outs and fly balls. In the midst of a great outing, Wolverine batters were able to take him deep into counts to get his pitch count high by the top of the 6th inning. Larsen was replaced by Cain White (FR/Legacy HS) , who struggled to find a groove and ended up allowing 9 runs in 2 innings pitched.

The Coyotes fall to 0-11 after the loss and 0-1 in conference play after the loss to the Wolverines. Next up for Cerro Coso Baseball is a road trip to Barstow on Feb 25, continuing conference play and still looking for their first win of the season.
