Pasadena - On the field that Jackie Robinson built, Cerro Coso dropped two consecutive games to the Pasadena. The opening game finished 9-5 and the second game 5-4.

Game one played out similarly to the four preceding games of the season. The Coyotes jumped out to a two run lead in the top of the second, only to let an error extend the bottom of the second inning. The inning started with both Harrison Greenhough (SO/Unionville HS) and Mason Cisneros (FR/Needles HS) singling to right center field. With Greenhough and Cisneros both on base, freshman Kesean Neighbors (FR/Centennial Corona HS) doubled to center field, driving both runners in and putting the Coyotes up 2-0.

The lead would dwindle quickly with what should have been a quick 1, 2, 3 inning. Starting pitcher Roman Hucks (FR/Churchill County HS/NV), retired John Sevilla, only to have Steven San Miguel reach on an error. After getting Jerry Ponce to strike out swinging, the inning should have been over; however, quite the opposite happened as the Lancers put together a two-out rally scoring five runs. Amid the rally, Hucks hit two batters with pitches, and walked two others to hurt his cause.

The lead was something that the Lancers would never relinquish fending off rallies in the seventh and ninth to drop the Coyotes to 0-5 on the season.

Game 2

The Coyotes had a chance to secure their first win of the season, taking a two-run lead into the bottom of the ninth with two outs. But Mother Nature had other ideas, as a routine fly ball got lost in the unlit, dark Pasadena night sky, and dropped in the field of play scoring two for a walk-off victory for the Lancers.

Coyote Sophomore slinger Scott Koenen (SO/Legacy HS) took a scoreless game into the bottom of the sixth inning. Koenen was dealing for the first five innings, striking out four, while his counterparts on the offensive side gave him a two run lead. Unable to hit Koenen, the Lancers in the bottom of the sixth inning resorted to their version of small ball, laying down two bunts to get runners into scoring position. That's when PJ DeZotell singled to left field driving home runs to knot the game at 2.

The Coyotes fought back in the top of the ninth, scoring two unearned runs but securing a lead heading into the final half inning. Koenen got behind, beaning two Lancer batters, before being replaced by Joseph Martinez who gave up a run on a wild pitch, but settled down securing one out on a ground-out and the routine fly ball that ended the game. Koenen takes the loss dropping to (0-1) and the Coyotes end their first two weekends of competition (0-6). The Coyotes will head back to the San Fernando Valley this weekend facing L.A. Valley College.
