Norwalk - If there was a recurring theme in the first several games for the Cerro Coso Coyotes, it would be that errors can hurt. Against Cerritos two costly first-inning errors led to three runs, and put the Coyotes behind for good as they fell 9-3 on the road.

Kevin Maxey (SO/Long Beach Poly High) opened up the scoring in the first inning with a solo home run to deep left field, giving the Coyotes the early lead. However, that lead would quickly fade as the Falcons put up 3 runs off of starter Thomas Shelley (SO/Boulder City High/NV), leaving the Coyotes to play from behind for the remainder of the game.

Scoring for the Coyotes went dry after the home run, until the top of the sixth inning, when Maxey with two, singled to left field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Freshman Chad Butler (Redlands High) connected on a 1-2 pitch down the line, with Maxey scoring from second pulling within striking distance at 5-2. The Coyotes would pull as close as two runs in the top of the seventh as Miguel Gonzalez reached base on a wild pitch, and Coach Jon Holmes, playing small ball, advanced the runner to third base in scoring position. Ezekiel Johnson (FR/Tempe High School/AZ) singled through the left side of the infield, driving home Gonzalez and bringing the Coyotes as close as they would get.

The Falcons put up four in the bottom of the seventh, taking a commanding 9-3 lead as Shelley ended his day giving up 9 runs on 12 hits. Kain White (FR/Legacy High/NV) entered in relief throwing two scoreless innings to close out the game for the Coyotes.

The Coyotes dropped to (0-4) heading into Saturday's double header with Pasadena College.
