Dr. Lawrence Coates, a psychologist specializing in the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioral health issues, will be the keynote speaker at a lecture on Survivors of Suicide at Cerro Coso Community College. He will be joined by Mike Cash, Certified Grief Counselor, from the Center for Loss and Life Transition. The event will take place on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in Room 350 in the Main Building.

Nearly 32,000 Americans commit suicide each year. Suicide is the 11th leading cause of death in the nation.

Mourning a death by suicide can be intense and confusing. However, there is HOPE for those who experience the shock and grief that can be consuming after losing someone to suicide. Dr. Coates, along with others, will share their insights on the subject. What's myth? What's fact? What can be expected? Where can you find help? This event will provide resources and information to those whose lives have been changed by suicide.

Sponsored by the Operation Family Fund and the Counseling and ACCESS Programs at Cerro Coso, the lecture is FREE and open to the public.
