When you first meet Jarrod Bowen, the new Administration of Justice faculty member, you would never guess he has a background in bull riding and boxing. Encouraged by his grandfather's diverse interests and experiences, Jarrod is a man of action who wants no regrets in life. He was raised on a ranch in Arroyo Grande, California, and grew up with Judd Leffew, son of the famed Gary Leffew, the 1970 World Champion bull rider. When Jarrod graduated from high school, he enlisted in the Army with the hopes of riding in the Military Rodeo Cowboy Association. Because the Army is frontline infantry, they do not allow their enlisted to participate in bull riding, so he completed his two years in the Army and then enlisted in the Navy where they had no such reservations. An airplane mechanic in the Navy, Jarrod earned the bull riding title Rookie of the Year in 1997. After finishing his tour in the Navy, he settled in Texas to get a college education and joined a USA Boxing Gym where he took the Golden Glove Championship Title for East Texas in 2004. The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 compelled him to reenlist in the Army. Following the war, Jarrod and his wife returned to California with their six children: Cody (17), Cheyenne (15), Alex (12), Isabella (11), Elijah (9), and Remy Jon (8). This active family enjoys Taekwondo, wrestling, and dance and is enjoying the fresh air of Ridgecrest, having moved from Bakersfield. Jarrod holds a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Texas, a Master's Degree in Administration of Criminal Justice from the University of Phoenix, and is currently finishing up his Ph.D. in Psychology from Walden University. He is a Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) Certified Trainer, Wicklander-Zulawski Certified Trainer, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Trainer, Ranger Manager, and taught Close Quarters Combat Training, Combat Life Saver Training, and Land Navigation. WELCOME Jarrod to Cerro Coso, your new home on the range!
