Cerro Coso welcomes Soccer Coach Kris Dickson!

Tuesday, July 2, 2013

Cerro Coso Community College is thrilled to launch the new Women's Soccer Program this fall with local Coach Kris Dickson.

Pre-season training will begin on July 8th and we are still looking for additional players. Coach Dickson is looking for a few full-time female students with a desire to play college soccer, to compete all over the state, and to be part of a new college athletics program.

Women's Soccer was added to the growing line-up of the college's intercollegiate sports teams in response to a Survey of Athletic Interests conducted each year in compliance with Title IX regulations. According to the survey, the number one sport supported by state and local athletes was volleyball followed closely by soccer. In the Fall of 2012 the College added Women's Volleyball to its lineup and is adding Women's Soccer in the Fall of 2013 with aspirations to add even more publicly supported programs in the coming years.

Athletic programs and the Physical Education Department are integral parts of the overall educational experience at Cerro Coso Community College. Adding Women's Soccer will increase the number of student athletes on campus and give all students and community members increasing opportunities to be a part of a college atmosphere that encourages school spirit and participation in activities inside and outside the classroom.

Female students who take their academics seriously, have a desire to play college sports, and are disciplined enough to be part of the college athletics program, can secure their spot on the team today.

Those who are interested in being among the first to play on the inaugural women's soccer team at Cerro Coso are encouraged to contact Athletic Director John Mercer at (760) 384-6353 for details.
