ACCESS Programs at Cerro Coso Community College recognized Cerro Coso student Janea L'Hommedieu as their Ridgecrest campus Student of the Year.

Given annually to a student who, despite obstacles, continues to face every challenge with enthusiasm and drive, the award was presented in a ceremony held at the Carriage Inn on Friday, April 26.

Janea is a great example of what students can accomplish with tenacity and assistance from the ACCESS Programs at the college. Through persistence and hard work she earned an Associate of Science Degree in Business this May.

Her degree represents a milestone achieved despite daunting obstacles and adversity. "One of my favorite teachers, Dottie Mott, inspired me to appreciate all the things that I am capable of doing," said Janea. "Her enthusiasm for life and teaching motivated me to achieve my goals."

Every college student has a reason for wanting a college degree. Janea's dream for a great job that will help her to travel and experience new cultures just got a little closer. With a degree in hand she will now hit the pavement looking for a job that will utilize the skills she has mastered at Cerro Coso.

In addition to her studies, she has gained valuable work experience as a student worker in the Learning Assistance Center and ACCESS Programs office.

Janea's story encourages students to set goals, utilize the resources available to them, organize their lives, and stay focused on their paths to success.
