Cerro Coso Offering Self Defense Course in Ridgecrest

The Cerro Coso Community College Office of Community Education is offering a "Basic Self Defense" and "Advanced Self Defense" classes in Ridgecrest. Both courses will meet in Room 407 located in the college Gymnasium.

Basic Self Defense will meet on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m., May 21 - June 12, 2013. Advanced Self Defense will meet on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., May 20 - June 13, 2013.

Sam Basco will instruct the courses on how to defend oneself against the most common strikes. Counter-attack techniques using punches, elbows, knees and foot along with locks and holds will be taught. Students will also learn how to return to a standing position when down along with safety and awareness techniques.

The ultimate goal of these classes is to help participants develop the confidence and capability to promote peace while effectively protecting themselves and others from physical harm.

This class is open to both men and women 16 and older and does not award college credit. A Community Education fee of $50 will be charged.
