Cerro Coso accepting registrations for Community Band

Ridgecrest, California – Local musicians ages 12 and up are being given an opportunity to make music together at Cerro Coso Community College this spring. Community Band is an excellent opportunity to partner with musicians in the area. Not only does it provide continuing education but it also provides an opportunity to build bonds with other artists and learn from their expertise and experiences.

Cerro Coso Community College is now accepting registrations for a Community Band class offered through the College's Office of Community Education. The class is open to the public.

Community Band will meet on Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., January 19 - April 26, 2012 in the College Lecture Center, Room 250.

Brass and woodwind musicians should have at least 2 years of prior instruction. String musicians should have at least 3 years of prior instructions and violinists should be able to play in the 3rd position. All musicians should be able to play all the major and minor scales to take this class.

Debra Veit will instruct the course and assist participants to improve musical skills, appreciate music and the different styles, and play musical instruments as part of a group. A Community Education fee of $30 will be charged and the class is limited to 60 students.

This class allows for continuous enrollment (students can enroll at any time during the length of the course.

The sense of community, aesthetics, and perseverance instilled in band members remains throughout life. The band will perform one or two times for the Ridgecrest Community.
