Big Band X-Press to Perform Garden Concert at Cerro Coso

October 27, 2011

Big Band X-Press Photo compliments of Laura Austin Ridgecrest, California: Big Band X-Press will rock the Cerro Coso Community College Sculpture Garden with the sounds of the big band era on November 12, from 2-4 p.m. Together for over 25 years the band has an extensive library including numbers made famous by the bands of Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie, to name a few. The band's library has grown to include new arrangements by some of the country's leading composers and arrangers.

Sponsored by the Associate Students of Cerro Coso this is a concert you don't want to miss. With a catalog of over 300 hundred songs, including such classics as "Chattanooga Choo-Choo" and "In the Mood," this band plays wide ranging pieces spinning from the early Swing style of the 1920's to the Big Band styles of the 1940's and beyond.

Band members represent a wide cross-section of the community. Players range from retirees to base employees, music teachers, and a sprinkling of students. High school students are also encouraged to participate.

Big Band X-Press performs on the average of once a month and is a major supporter of the music programs in the Valley. The group offers four or five scholarships to music camps for young musicians each year and occasionally helps local groups with additional expenses incurred by festivals or other activities.

Join the Big Band X-Press at the college and enjoy an afternoon of FREE music from an earlier era, performed by musicians for whom this music is just meant to be FUN.
