August 11, 2011

Digital Video Production-DMA C131-CRN 70175

Making high quality affordable movies and videos has never been easier thanks to the popularity of digital video cameras and video enabled smartphones. These new pocket sized tools have made creating family and business videos easier than ever. The challenge is taking the great images you've captured and editing, adding graphics and titles, then finishing your masterpiece for sharing and distribution over the web or on DVD's.

This fall, Cerro Coso Community College is offering a course covering these topics and others designed to help you build important skills for the new digital media age. The course's instructor, Ray Hocker, is a professional photographer and filmmaker. He has produced over a dozen broadcast television programs shown around the world.

In this class, students will progress through practical and creative assignments including creating a music video and a family history mini-documentary. Finished projects will be shared and critiqued with the class.

Students will need access to a digital video camera and access to the computer labs on Cerro Coso campuses or their own PC or Mac computer. Topics covered during the course include: script writing, camera techniques, audio techniques, and editing. The course can be completed using editing software that came with your computer or can be downloaded at no cost from the web. Advanced editing software packages including Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro and Avid are also covered. Students will gain new insight into the power and creativity of these video editing products.

This class is perfect for home video enthusiasts, university bound media arts students, or business people interested in building skills to better market and sell their products.

This three unit course is a HYBRID class with an online learning component and will meet on Mondays from 6:45 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. Both onsite and online participation is required. The class will be held concurrently via Adobe Connect between the Ridgecrest, Kern River Valley, Bishop and Mammoth campuses. Sign-up today for Digital Video Production, DMA C131, CRN 70175. Tuition for the course is $108.

Fall 2011 classes begin August 22, 2011. Complete registration and class information is available on the web at www.cerrocoso.edu or call the campus nearest you.
