"On Ground" Child Development classes this Fall

Cerro Coso Community College is offering a new series of "on ground" Child Development classes at the Ridgecrest campus this fall. The on ground classes reflect recent program revisions and statewide alignment. Cerro Coso is committed to building an on ground program so classes will not be cancelled. Space is available in both CHDV C100 and CHDV C102.

Are you interested in a career providing quality care and education for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, or school age youngsters in both full-day and part-day programs? Cerro Coso Community College's Child Development Program of study promotes the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of children through positive interactions and developmentally appropriate activities.

CHDV C100 – Principles and Practices of Teaching Young Children – will meet on Thursday evenings from 5:10 – 8:20 p.m. The class provides an examination of the underlying theoretical principles of developmentally appropriate practices applied to programs and environments emphasizing the key role of relationships, constructive adult-child interactions and teaching strategies in supporting physical, social, creative and intellectual development for all children.

CHDV C102 - Learn the knowledge and skills needed to providing appropriate curriculum and environments for young children from birth to age 6 in CHDV C102 Materials and Curriculum. The 3-unit course will meet on Tuesdays from 6 to 9:10 p.m. Students will examine a teacher's role in supporting development and fostering the joy of learning for all young children using observation and assessment strategies emphasizing the essential role of play. Content will include language and literacy, social and emotional learning, sensory learning, art and creativity, math and science. Students may be required to observe children in a group setting.

The college plans to offer CHDV C104 – Child, Family & Community and CHDV C106-Child Growth & Development in the Spring 2012.
