October is Transfer Awareness Month

October 1, 2010

October has been designated "Transfer Awareness Month." During October there will be many activities held to help promote transferring to the four-year universities. All of the following events will take place in the Transfer Center Room 224, unless otherwise noted.

October 1: Transfer Q&A Workshop 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.
Do you have questions about your transfer options, admission requirements, or just questions in general about transferring? This workshop will help to clarify the process of transferring to a UC, CSU, or Private/Independent College.

October 4: CSU Application Workshop 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
(Held in LRC 710) Do you need assistance in filling out the CSU Application? This workshop will show you how!

October 5: CSU Information Handouts 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Are looking for more information about different CSU campuses? Stop by the Career and Transfer Center to pick up information about the CSU campuses you are interested in attending.

October 7: Helpful Transfer Websites 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
(Held in LRC 631) There are wonderful websites for transfer students to use to help make transfer easy. This workshop will go over the websites in detail and show you how to be in charge of your transfer experience.

October 11: National University on Cerro Coso Campus 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
(Held in the Student Center) Are you interested in attending the online college, National University? A National University representative will be on the Cerro Coso campus to answer your questions about attending National University. Also, learn more about scholarships that are available to Cerro Coso students that transfer to National University.

October 12: Calculating Your Transfer GPA 3:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
You know that one question on your transfer application that says "what is your transferable GPA?" This workshop will show you how to calculate your transfer GPA so that you feel confident about answering that question.

October 13: On the Spot Admissions – CSU, Bakersfield 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Are you interested in transferring to CSU, Bakersfield next fall? A CSUB representative will be on the Cerro Coso (IWV) campus to offer On-the-Spot Admissions to eligible transfer students. You must sign up at the Cerro Coso Counseling Desk to reserve your appointment time to meet with the CSUB rep.

October 18: Anyone Can Transfer Workshop 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Did you know that YOU can transfer to a four-year university? That's right! Come to this workshop to discover the opportunities that are available to you (particularly online options). The opportunity is there, take advantage of it!

October 21: UC Information and Handouts 2:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Are looking for more information about different UC campuses? Stop by the Career and Transfer Center to pick up information about the UC campuses you are interested in attending.

October 26: UC Application Workshop 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
(Held in LRC 631) Want to get a jump start on your UC Application? This workshop will help you with getting started and show you the process of filling out the UC application. If you need assistance, please stop by!

October 27: TAG Agreement Workshop 2:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Seven UC campuses offer guaranteed admission to California community college students who meet specific requirements. By participating in a Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program, students receive early review of their academic records, early admission notification, and specific guidance about major preparation and general education coursework. Stop by this workshop to learn more about the TAG agreement and how to fill out your application.

October 28: UC Personal Statement Assistance 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Are you transferring to a UC? You will need to provide a personal statement on your UC application. This workshop will provide you with guidelines that the UC campuses are looking for in your personal statement.
