Human Services professionals may work with children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly providing social services and support for people as case managers, social service assistants, counselors, childcare workers, or probation officers.
Cerro Coso is offering two Human Services courses in Bishop and Mammoth Lakes this fall.
HMSV C101 Introduction to Human Services – Deborah Rundell will instruct this 3-unit course via ITV at both the Bishop and Mammoth Lakes Campus' on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 3:25 p.m. The goal of the course is to introduce students to human service professions. This course provides a historical overview and contemporary theories, as well as descriptions of service delivery models of human services, and will help students to understand clients as a whole person in a specific context. The course also addresses issues of competence, professionalism, and ethics in human services.
Students who have completed HMSV C103, Preparation for Field Work in Human
Services, at the College and completed the required 144 required class hours
may register for the HMSV C104 class. This class is designed to provide
students with the complete experience of working in a human services
setting.
Career possibilities and opportunities are endless in the field of Human Services. Specialized training as a helping professional is needed in residential care, correctional facilities, shelters and food banks, substance abuse, organizations dedicated to children and families, poverty and employment services, child and elder care operations, mental health agencies, and domestic violence efforts.
