IWV Campus
Cerro Coso Community College is offering two workshops intended for those
interested in studying the craft of film making in a hands-on environment.
These workshops are designed for students with little or no film making
experience and offers the best of all worlds: focused learning on topics of
immediate interest to the student, hands-on film shoots, and the opportunity
to make a fully-realized final film.
Sessions II and III of the Film Making Workshops will run consecutively,
July 19 through August 27, 2010, and will meet Monday through Friday from 8
a.m. to 4 p.m. at California City Studios. Some meeting times will
vary to accommodate night filming.
"Unlike other film schools, our students begin to learn how to write, shoot,
and edit their own films from their very first day. Many film schools just
hand the students a book. The students in our workshops collectively direct
a short film that is then screened and critiqued in class. A full 3 weeks
will be spent producing, directing and editing their final film project,"
stated California City Studios owner, Russell Michael.
Participants have a pre-production period to cast, scout locations, plan
their final film and meet with instructors for one-on-one consultation. The
rest of the month is devoted to production and post-production of their
final film.
The first 2 weeks of the program will be divided between classroom
instruction and the production of a short student film using High Def
cameras, lighting packages, and digital editing systems on Vegas 8. Special
classes in digital camera and lighting are given before students shoot their
final films. Following production and post-production, students will screen
their work for their classmates and instructors and engage in critiques and
discussion. The last four weeks of the program are devoted solely to the
student's final project: a disk of completed works will be given to each
participant.
There is a $1550 Community Education fee for the course and the minimum age
for participation is 18 years old. Class size is limited to 10.
