IWV Campus Offers Community Education Grant Writing Seminar

March 18, 2009

Cerro Coso Community College is offering a Community Education "Grant Writing Seminar" which will meet on Tuesday evenings April 21, April 28, and May 5, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This class will meet in Cerro Coso's Learning Resource Center, Room 709. There is a $50.00 community education fee for this course. Grant writing is an activity that requires global vision, a comprehensive plan, as well as great attention to detail. This grant writing course will take students through the grant writing process including creating the vision, identifying potential grant projects, developing funding sources, utilizing scoring rubrics, writing the narrative, creating the budget, evaluation, and sustainability issues. Helpful strategies to avoid a wide range of grant mistakes will also be covered.

Information will be presented in an interactive manner and will include writing activities that will allow individuals and organizations to develop products that can be used in a grant application. Participants should bring a USB storage device to store work products as well as any documents already created for grant and proposal writing (i.e. mission, goals.)
This "Grant Writing Seminar" will be instructed by Laura Hickle, Coordinator of Special Projects for the local school district. She has extensive experience in the management of projects, budgets and evaluation. As the primary grant writer for the school district, she has written thirteen successful grants in the last 18 months ranging from $10,000 up to $3 million dollars.

This special workshop is limited to 24 students to insure plenty of one on one attention. Student registrations forms can be found at: http://www.cerrocoso.edu/communityed. For more information, call Cheri Plett at (760) 384-6106.
