Cerro Coso Community College Holding Auditions for Spring Production
January 9, 2009
The Cerro Coso Community College Theatre Department is gearing up for a
busy spring semester which will convene on January 20, 2009! Auditions
will be held the first week of classes for the hit musical Little Shop
of Horrors. The show features a down-and-out skid row floral
assistant who becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic
plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. The plant, "Audrey
II," grows into an ill-tempered, fowl-mouthed R&B singing carnivore who
offers the floral assistant fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its
growing appetite. This performance is not recommended for small children.
Singers, actors, dancers, choreographers, musicians, and puppeteers are
needed for the production. Sign up for Theatre Production
(THEA C121 – CRN#30551) to be a part of the cast. There are
many parts available and no experience necessary! Sign up for
Technical Theatre (THEA C131 – CRN#30552) to help out behind the
scenes on Little Shop of Horrors. Performances will take place on May
8th, 9th, and 10th in the College Lecture Center.
Cerro Coso is also offering a number of additional Theatre courses.
Sign up for Performance Studies (THEA C105 – CRN#30607) to
learn about types of performances beyond the traditional stage performance.
Students will participate in a Poetry Slam and will perform literary and
conversational texts in both solo and group performances. Improve your
acting skills in one of the College's four levels of acting courses which
include:
- Fundamentals of Acting (THEA C111 – CRN#30549)
- Beginning Acting (THEA C112 – CRN#30550)
- Intermediate Acting (THEA C211 – CRN#30553)
- and Advanced Acting (THEA C212 – CRN#30554)
Students in the Acting courses will develop their skills in the
performance of theatre exercises, improvisations, cold readings, monologues,
and scenes. The Acting courses culminate in a public showcase.
The college is also offering an online Theatre course, Introduction to Play
Reading (THEA C103 – CRN#30606). This course introduces students to
the interpretation and analysis of dramatic literature with focus on the
script as a vehicle for performance.
