College Offers Digital Media Arts Week-Long Summer Workshops at ESCC

Get out of the heat and spend a week in beautiful Mammoth Lakes learning
introductory concepts and skills in digital video, web design, digital photo
retouching, or desktop publishing at the Mammoth campus of Cerro Coso
Community College!
"Digital Video Workshop" is a one unit class in which
students will learn the basics of editing video and will create a short
video from several clips and soundtracks, create transitions and use
filters. Students are welcome to use their own clips or use stock video
provided. This workshop meets in room 217 at the Mammoth campus, June 16-20,
from 9:00am - 5:15pm. The course number is MA C061-93, CRN 50069. The
instructor, Ray Hocker, has recently produced high definition video
programming on several cable channels and teaches Video Technology at
Burroughs High School in Ridgecrest.
In "Photo Retouching Workshop" students will learn the
basics of color correcting and retouching digital photos using Adobe
Photoshop CS3. Students can bring digital copies of their own photos in to
class to work on or work with photos provided by the instructor. This
workshop meets in room 217 at the Mammoth campus, June 23-27, from 9:00am -
5:15pm. The course number is MA C061-90, CRN 50066. Suzie Ama is the
instructor for this one unit class.
Students will learn how to create a 4-page newsletter using Adobe InDesign
CS3 in the "Desktop Publishing Workshop". Students can use
their own content and photos or use placeholder content provided by the
instructor. This workshop with instructor Suzie Ama will meet in room 217 at
the Mammoth campus, June 23-27, from 9:00am - 5:15pm. The course number is
MA C061-91, CRN 50067 and is a one unit class.
In "Web Site Portfolio Workshop" students will use Adobe
Dreamweaver CS3 templates to create a simple web site for showcasing
photographs or digital artwork. Alternatively, students can learn to edit
content on an existing site and make minor design changes. Students will
also learn how to manage site files locally and upload files to a server.
This workshop meets in room 217 at the Mammoth campus, June 23-27, from
9:00am - 5:15pm. The course number is MA C061-92, CRN 50068.
The "Photo Retouching", "Desktop Publishing", and "Web Site Portfolio"
workshops are being taught concurrently, and students will work through
self-paced tutorials and assignments, as the instructor makes herself
available for assistance.
The instructor, Suzie Ama, has 21 years of experience in graphic design,
including ownership of a small design firm for 8 years during which she
designed and produced web sites, multimedia, brochures, business stationery,
and product packaging. She has a Bachelors of Fine Art in Visual
Communication and a Masters of Science in Education.
All resources will be provided in class.
Students should, however, bring an inexpensive set of headphones to class to
listen to instructional media and/or to test audio for student projects. The
Mammoth campus is located at 101 College Parkway, Mammoth Lakes, CA 93546.
