KRV Offers Summer Music and Art Workshop for Kids

Do your kids want to do something fun and productive this summer? Send them to College! The Cerro Coso Community College, Kern River Valley Campus in Lake Isabella is offering a Music and Art Workshop as a Community Education Class this summer for children 8 to 16 years old. The fee for this class is $120. There is also a $10 materials fee that should be paid directly to the instructor. This class will begin on June 9, 2008 and go through July 16, 2008. The class will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Kern River Valley Campus (a total of 12 classes). This Music and Art Workshop will be instructed by Cerro Coso Community College instructor Helen Smoot who has a MA in Music and Piano.

The Music and Art Workshop is divided into two sections - one hour music and one hour art. In the music class the student will learn basic keyboard skills, beginning music theory, music notation and rhythm patterns. Keyboards are provided for class instruction. The student will need an instrument for outside practice. In the art section the student will learn color theory, perspective, enlarging and transferring techniques. The ceramic portion will concentrate on hand building and glazing. The goal of the class is to provide an atmosphere for the students to creatively express themselves while learning basic art principles.

Parents may register their students and pay the Community Education fees at the Cerro Coso Community College office located at 5520 Lake Isabella Blvd., Lake Isabella during regular business hours. Registration forms can also be found at www.cerrocoso.edu/communityed.
