Auditions Coming Up for Cerro Coso's Spring Play

January 10, 2008

The Cerro Coso Theatre Department is gearing up for a busy spring semester which officially begins January 21, 2008. Auditions for the spring play will be held the first week of classes. The college will be producing THE BROTHERS GRIMM SPECTACULATHON by Don Zolidis. The fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm are turned on their heads in this fast-paced, hilarious play as cast members attempt to combine all 209 stories ranging from classics like Snow White, Cinderella, and Hansel and Gretel to the more bizarre, obscure Brothers Grimm stories. The wild, free-form comedy has lots of audience participation and madcap fun. The play provides a fun challenge for cast members, with colorful characters like the Prince, Rumpelstiltskin, The Big Bad Wolf, The Talking Fish, Rapunzel, Little Red, and Cinderella. Over forty parts are available. No experience is necessary. Those interested in being a part of the cast should sign up for Theatre Production (THEA C121). Those interested in working behind the scenes on the play should sign up for Technical Theatre (THEA C131).

For those who wish to develop their acting skills, the college will offer four levels of Acting Courses: Fundamentals of Acting (THEA C111), Beginning Acting (THEA C112), Intermediate Acting (THEA C211), and Advanced Acting (THEA 212). The Acting courses will culminate in a final public showcase.

The college will also offer a course in Directing (THEA C230) this semester. The course will focus on the theory and process of directing, from play selection to performance. Students will develop directing techniques and skills by directing short dramatic works.

A new online Theatre course, Introduction to Theatre (THEA C101) is also being offered this spring. Students will learn about the key players in the theatre, including the playwright, the director, the actor, and the designer. The course will cover many aspects of theatre such as theatre history and dramatic literature.

Cerro Coso now offers an Associate Degree in Theatre. For more information about the Cerro Coso Theatre courses or degree program, please contact Melinda Fogle Oliver in the CCCC Theatre Department at 384-6114.
