College Driver's Education Class Starts November 5th at IWV

October 23, 2007

Cerro Coso Community College is supporting new drivers by offering a Community Education Class in Driver's Education. The class, instructed by Steve Tomlinson, will meet at Burroughs High School in Portable #3 on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. beginning November 5, 2007 through December 19, 2007.

This course is designed to meet all the California DMV and State Department of Education requirements for the satisfactory completion of the education curriculum. The course is also designed to allow every student who is willing to work and follow directions to successfully complete the course with a passing grade. In order to accomplish this, students are expected to prepare for each chapter test and pass it with a C- or better. Students may be given an oral test by the instructor if determined that is needed. "Successful" is defined as 70% or a grade of "C" or better. The end result is a satisfactory grade and the DMV's official "Driver Education Classroom Completion" slip (pink slip). This allows the student to take the permit test from the DMV, and to enroll in a six-hour behind the wheel driving course and finally to take the driving test and get a license. Parental consent is required. This class meets the classroom requirements of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), but does not offer behind the wheel instruction. There is a class fee of $40.

Parents may register students at the Cerro Coso Community College, Admissions and Records Office or call 384-6374 for more information. To save time, you may also download, print, and complete the registration form from http://www.cerrocoso.edu/communityed/ and bring it with you to the Admissions and Records Office and pay the $40 fee.

Seating is limited, please register early.
