Auditions for The Laramie Project

August 15, 2007

Auditions are coming up for Cerro Coso Community College's fall production of Moises Kaufman's play The Laramie Project. In 1998, a college student was kidnapped, severely beaten and left to die, tied to a fence on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming. His name was Matthew Shepard and he was the victim of this assault because he was gay. The Laramie Project compiles interviews with the people of Laramie into a breathtaking theatrical collage which raises issues of tolerance and compassion.

Sign up for Theatre Production (THEA C121 – CRN#70571) to be a part of the cast. Auditions will be held the first week of classes. There are over sixty parts available! No experience is necessary. Sign up for Technical Theatre (THEA C131 – CRN#70572) to help out behind the scenes on The Laramie Project. Performances will take place on December 7th, 8th, and 9th in the college's newly renovated Lecture Center.

Cerro Coso is also offering a number of additional Theatre courses. Sign up for Improvisation (THEA C118 – CRN# 70570) to learn the basics of improvisation and be a part of Cerro Coso's "Who Said What Now?" Improv Troupe. Improve your acting skills in one of the college's four levels of acting courses. Cerro Coso's Acting courses include Fundamentals of Acting (THEA C111 – CRN#70568), Beginning Acting (THEA C112 – CRN#70569), Intermediate Acting (THEA C211 – CRN#70575), and Advanced Acting (THEA C212 – CRN#70576). Students in the Acting courses will develop their skills in the performance of theatre exercises, improvisations, cold readings, monologues, and scenes.

The Acting courses culminate in a public showcase. Sign up for Movement for the Actor (THEA C140 – CRN#70573) to learn to enhance physical clarity, expressiveness, and creativity in performance. Students in the Movement course will develop physical characterization skills for both modern and period-style plays. Cerro Coso College now offers a degree in Theatre. For more information about the Theatre courses or degree, contact Melinda Fogle Oliver in the Cerro Coso Theatre Department at 384-6114.

On campus registration is now in process on a first-come, first-served basis. The Fall semester begins August 27.
