High Sierra Energy Summit Coming to Mammoth Lakes

June 7, 2007

Cerro Coso Community College and the High Sierra Energy Initiative have partnered to bring the High Sierra Energy Summit to the Eastern Sierra College Center's Mammoth Lakes campus the week of August 13. This week-long integrated course focuses on energy efficiency and renewable energy and includes local case studies. Topics include solar, wind, geothermal and hydrogen energy with sessions on green building and transportation.

Participants in this Summit will start each day examining the environmental relationships of energy sources and uses. Each afternoon, a different energy source will be evaluated in the context of global and local case studies. The Summit also boasts a tour of the geothermal plant and a local green building tour. "The Eastern Sierra is the perfect setting for programs on energy efficiency and renewables. I'm very excited that Cerro Coso will be offering a course that will give students the opportunity to learn about energy initiatives around the world, but also energy programs their neighbors are implementing," stated Deanna Campbell, Director, Eastern Sierra College Center of Cerro Coso. Rick Phelps, Executive Director, High Sierra Energy Foundation, www.highsierraenergy.org, concurs, "This program is a great example of the strong partnerships within the Eastern Sierra community and the High Sierra Energy Foundation is pleased to be bringing world-wide expertise in energy efficiency and renewables to Mammoth Lakes."

For more information about the High Sierra Energy Summit visit the Cerro Coso website, www.cerrocoso.edu/escc or call the Mammoth campus (760) 934-2875. You may register online or in person at the Mammoth Lakes College Campus, 101 College Parkway, Mammoth Lakes, California. The High Sierra Energy Initiative is an energy partnership between Southern California Edison and the Town of Mammoth Lakes established in January 2005. The initiative designates the High Sierra Energy Foundation to implement the Initiative's mission of supporting a commitment to sustainable practices through energy efficiency, and providing leadership and guidance in promoting, facilitating, and instituting such practices in the Mammoth Lakes community. This partnership is part of a $675 million SCE energy efficiency program authorized by the California Public Utilities Commission for outreach, education and marketing.
