Get Active this Summer at ESCC

May 21, 2007

Learn a sport, get healthy, see some country this summer at Cerro Coso. Cerro Coso Community College's Bishop campus is offering three distinctly different physical activity classes that offer something for just about everyone.

The ever popular golf class, team taught by the Eastern Sierra College Center's Rick Frey and Bishop Country Club's, Steve Shibley, is being offered again this summer at the country club on Thursday mornings between 8:00am and noon. The class is designed for every ability level, from raw beginners to seasoned golfers. If you've ever wanted to find out what the sport of golf is all about, or you've wanted to get your game to the next level now is the time, and the price is right. In addition to the $20.00 enrollment fee, there is a $35.00 facility use fee to cover the cost of range balls. Only $55.00 for 54 hours of instruction and course play is quite a bargain! First class is May 31st.

If golf isn't your thing, how about something a bit more energetic? General Conditioning is offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8:30am at the Bishop Senior Center. This fun, inter-generational class combines strength training with low impact aerobics...and a lot of laughs. The class is appropriate for every fitness level, from fit athletes to couch potatoes who are ready to get in shape. Rick Frey, a 40-year veteran of college coaching, group exercise instruction, and personal training, ensures that no one is ever left behind. If you want an enjoyable way to improve endurance, strength, and flexibility, sign up soon. The summer session begins June 4th.

Want to see something besides a golf course or the Bishop Senior Center? Join the wellness walking group on Friday afternoons between 1:30 and 5:45pm. This is one of the best ways to get to know the area surrounding Bishop. The first class meeting is at the Bishop College Campus on West Line Street; but after that, each walk starts at a different place according to a schedule developed each month by instructor, Rick Frey. Some of the walks planned for this summer include the Owens River, Farmer and Buckley Ponds, Tungsten Hills, Buttermilks, Bishop Pass Trail, Blue Lake Trail, Paiute Pass Trail, Grass Lake Trail, and the ever popular Rock Creek Trail (from Paradise clear to Rock Lake). This class begins on June 8th.
