Seuss is Coming! Spring Musical Auditions

January 8, 2007

The Cerro Coso Theatre Department is gearing up for a busy spring semester which officially begins January 20, 2007. Auditions are coming up for the College's spring production of the musical Seussical. Seussical is a full-length book musical that weaves together the most famous characters and tales of Dr. Seuss. Seussical incorporates elements from at least fifteen Dr. Seuss books. Many Seuss characters meet one another for the first time in this musical – some of the characters fall in love, some have desperate adventures and some even save the world! The travels of such popular characters as The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, and The Whos take them to places like the Jungle of Nool, McEligott's Pool, and Palm Beach. The musical touches on themes such as the value of others, the importance of keeping a promise, peace, and of course, the power of imagination.

Sign up for Theatre C121 (CRN# 30552) to become part of the Seussical cast. No experience is necessary and many parts are available. All actors, singers, dancers, and musicians are encouraged to join the class. The class will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 10:04 p.m. Auditions will be held the first week of class.

Want to work behind the scenes on Cerro Coso's spring production of Seussical? Sign up for Theatre C131 (CRN# 30553) for a hands-on experience in areas of technical production such as set design, lighting, sound, costuming, makeup, and publicity. The class will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:15 p.m. to 9:49 p.m.

Like to perform but don't have time to devote to the musical? Cerro Coso is offering a class in Performances Studies. Students in Performance Studies will learn about types of performance beyond the traditional stage performance. Students will participate in a Poetry Slam, for instance. Sign up for Theatre C105 (CRN# 30609) to showcase those hidden talents! The class will meet Tuesdays and Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:25 p.m.

The College is also offering four levels of Acting – Theatre C111, Fundamentals of Acting (CRN# 30549); Theatre C112, Beginning Acting (CRN# 30550); Theatre C211, Intermediate Acting (CRN# 30554); and Theatre C212, Advanced Acting (CRN# 30555). Brush up those acting skills while working on monologues, scenes, and other acting projects. All four levels meet concurrently on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 6:03 p.m.

The College is also offering an online play reading class. Theatre C103, Introduction to Play Reading (CRN# 30699) introduces students to the interpretation and analysis of dramatic literature with focus on the script as a vehicle for performance.
