Register Now for Online Classes Starting in September and October

Always wanted to become a Cerro Coso Community College on-line student, but thought it was too late? Well, it's not too late! The College is currently registering students for late start on-line classes that begin the end of September and October 2006. You may register on-campus or online at www.cerrocoso.edu/coyoteconnection. The following on-line late start classes are being offered:

CHILD DEVELOPMENT – Diversity in Education, CHDV C125 – This is a 3-unit class, instructed by Elisabeth Fuller. This course leads the student through a process of exposing societal contradictions in the areas of race, gender, ethnicity, culture, etc. The student will identify biases, transform to an understanding of self and society, and recognize an anti-bias approach as a new beginning. This on-line class begins September 25, 2006 through December 15, 2006.

COMPUTER SCIENCE – Beginning Word, CSCI C121 – This 1-unit class is instructed by Angela Sellers. This hands-on computer course is designed to provide basic understanding of word processing concepts using Microsoft Word. Students create, edit, and format documents including business letters, multiple-page reports, newsletters, and cover letters. This course begins preparation for the core level Microsoft Office Specialist certification exam for Microsoft Word. This on-line class begins October 16, 2006 through December 15, 2006.

COMPUTER SCIENCE – MS PowerPoint, CSCI C127 – This 1-unit class is instructed by Kathy Bultman. This is a hands-on microcomputer course designed to provide basic understanding of Microsoft PowerPoint. Topics to be covered include planning, creating, editing, viewing, and printing. This course prepares the student to take the core level Microsoft PowerPoint Office Users Specialist certification exam. This on-line class begins October 16, 2006 through December 9, 2006.

COMPUTER SCIENCE – Intermediate Word, CSCI C151 - This 1-unit class is instructed by Tom McGovern. This hands-on computer course is designed to provide an intermediate understanding of word processing concepts using Microsoft Word. Students create, edit, and format documents including a business plan, form letter, mailing labels, and learn how to collaborate with others on the creation of complex documents. This course completes preparation for the core level Microsoft Office Specialist certification exam. This on-line class begins October 16, 2006 through December 8, 2006.

LIBRARY TECHNOLOGY – Intro to Library Research & Bibliography, LIT C075 – This is a 1-unit class instructed by Heather Hepler. This course presents the fundamentals of the research process. The student is introduced to the organization of information in the library setting and access through the use of online catalogs. The use of the worldwide web is covered with particular emphasis on evaluation of information contained in web pages. The course covers the use of printed and electronic reference materials and discusses legal and ethical issues of intellectual property including copyright, fair use, and plagiarism. This on-line class begins October 23, 2006 through December 15, 2006.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT – Career Alternatives, PDEV C075 – This is a 1-unit class instructed by Greg Kost. Students will evaluate their individual life-style preferences through use of in class assessment tools. Students will explore the world of work and educational programs, and develop career decisions and action plans necessary to achieve individual career goals. This on-line class begins October 23, 2006 through December 15, 2006.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT – Becoming a Master Student, PDEV C101 – This is a 3-unit class instructed by Bonita Robison. This class emphasizes skills for becoming an effective student such as time management, note taking, memory skills, textbook reading, exam preparation and test strategies. A variety of college resources including the library will be introduced. Topics such as personal strengths, goal setting and career choice will be explored. This on-line class begins September 25, 2006 through December 15, 2006.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION – Foundations of Physical Education, PHED C101 – This is a 3-unit class instructed by Richard Adams. Students will examine the significance of physical education within a comprehensive education program and study the historical background and philosophies in the field. They will also research the relations between physical education and the fields of recreation and health. This on-line class begins September 25, 2006 through December 15, 2006.

SPANISH – Elementary Spanish I, SPAN C101 – This is a 5-unit class instructed by Jon Heaton. This course is an introduction to the Spanish language where students will learn basic grammar and vocabulary for speaking, reading, understanding and writing at the beginning level as well as learning about the culture and civilization of the Spanish-speaking world. The emphasis of the course is on communication and preparation for advanced reading and composition skills. This on-line class begins September 25, 2006 through December 15, 2006.
