Register Now for Classes Starting in October at KRV

It's not too late to become a Cerro Coso Community College student. The College is currently registering students for late start classes that begin in October 2006. You may register on-campus at the Kern River Valley Campus (KRV), located at 5520 Lake Isabella Blvd. or online at www.cerrocoso.edu/coyoteconnection. The following late start classes are being offered at the KRV Campus:

CHILD DEVELOPMENT – Admin of Programs in CHDV II, CHDV C252 - This is a 3-unit class, instructed by Mary O'Neal. Students will continue studying the principles, techniques and methods emphasizing leadership and advocacy roles in the management of Child Development programs. Topics covered include effective strategies for working with parents, staff development, and team building. Advocacy roles with staff, as a Center, and in the community are also explored. This class will meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. until 9:10 p.m. beginning October 24, 2006 through December 12, 2006. This is an ITV class held concurrently between the Indian Well Valley, Kern River Valley, Bishop and Mammoth campuses, hosted at the IWV Campus. There is an online component to this class; students will participate 3.5 hours weekly. Prerequisite: Completion of nine units of Child Development course work or equivalent.

COMPUTER SCIENCE – Beginning Excel, CSCI C123– This 1-unit class is instructed by Ron Montague. This hands-on computer course is designed to provide a basic understanding of spreadsheets. Spreadsheet design, creation, revision, formatting and printing are covered. The learner will create basic sales or expense reports, family budgets and basic business related spreadsheet documents using Microsoft Excel features and functions. This course begins preparation for the core level Microsoft Excel Microsoft Office Specialist certification exam. This class will meet on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 2:00 p.m. until 4:20 p.m. beginning October 23, 2006 through December 13, 2006.

COMPUTER SCIENCE – Introduction to the Internet, CSCI C171 – This 1-unit class is instructed by Ron Montague. This course is a hands-on introduction to the Internet including electronic mail, file transfer protocol (FTP), browser use and web page development. This class will meet on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8:00 a.m. until 10:03 a.m. beginning October 23, 2006 through December 13, 2006.

HEALTH SCIENCE – Community First Aid and Safety, HSCI C105 – This 0.5-unit American
Red Cross course, instructed by Irma Jean Pack, will study basic first aid with discussions, demonstrations and practical experiences. The course will cover emergency action principles, wounds, shock, poisoning, burns, splinting, diabetic emergencies, infection, heart attack, temperature extremes, transportation and bandaging. The class also includes "Community CPR" – rescue breathing, CPR, choking skills for adult, child, and infant. This class is being offered twice, once on Friday, October 13, 2006 and again on Friday, November 3, 2006. Both classes begin at 7:30 a.m. through 5:30 p.m.

MEDIA ARTS – Animation II, MA C161 – This 3-unit class is instructed by Jim Kiggens. This course uses a guided digital studio approach in a close analysis of the practical production skills and techniques in 3D modeling and animation. Students will complete a combination of exercises, individual and group projects. This class will meet on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:10 p.m. beginning October 21, 2006 through December 9, 2006. This class meets at the Media Production Center.
