Cerro Coso Loses President to District Office
Ridgecrest, CA – May 17, 2006
Dr.
Sharon K. Dyer, President of Cerro Coso Community College for nearly 4 years
is now in the Bakersfield Offices of the Kern Community College District.
Dyer is on Special Assignment working with Chancellor Sandra Serrano on
Resource Development and Marketing. She will focus on cultivating new
sources for funding and pursuing opportunities to enhance the District
resource base in all areas. She will also concentrate on Marketing all of
the Colleges in the District: Bakersfield, Cerro Coso, and Porterville.
Dr. Dyer was honored with a proclamation from the City of Ridgecrest on
April 19th for her significant contributions to Cerro Coso Community
College. Dyer was instrumental in the growth of Cerro Coso. She helped pass
a multi-county bond issue that allowed the college to install a 6.5 acre
Solar Field to offset energy costs; plan a new science center, plan a art
building addition, opened the new Learning Resource Center, and the remodel
of the East Wing Classroom Building.
Dyer is a supporter of online students. She is committed to distance
education to reach "time bound and place bound rural citizens."
Dyer is also committed to community and economic development; providing the
technical training necessary for the advancement of workers in the defense
and medical industries, in public safety, etc. Dyer is also committed to
opening the minds of elementary, middle and high school students to the
wonders of a college education. Dr. Dyer will be missed by the students,
staff and faculty of Cerro Coso Community College for her indispensable
contributions and services to the College.
