Cerro Coso to Offer Community Education Class on the ABC's of Writing for Children

Ridgecrest, CA – January 13, 2006

Have you ever dreamed of writing for children? YOU CAN DO IT! Enroll now in Cerro Coso's Community Education class "ABCs of Writing for Children." This class will provide you with an overview of children's literature genres with an emphasis on writing for young children. Discover the elements of a good picture book, its structure and the critical role of illustration. Learn how to format a manuscript and how to submit your work to a publisher. This class will de-mystify children's writing via lecture, student participation, simple writing drills, discussion and handouts.

The class will be held at the College in Room 146 (Main Building, 1st Floor) from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2006. Students may register and pay the $35 fee at the College in the Office of Student Learning, Room 214 or download, print, and complete the registration form from http://www.cerrocoso.edu/communityed/ and mail it along with the $35 fee to: Cerro Coso Community College, Community Education, Attention: Lia Bement, 3000 College Heights Blvd., Ridgecrest, CA 93555.

Instructor Terry L. Pierce is a published children's author in books and magazines. Her published books include: Two tales of Hawaii, Greatest Goofiest Jokes, Goofiest Knock-Knocks, and Hawaii A-Z Coloring Book Series. Upcoming books that are currently under contract include: Pet Jokes that will Make You Howl!, TAE KWON DO!, and The Bone Hunter. Terry is also the Assistant Kern County Coordinator for the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators.
