Michelle Perkins Named Cerro Coso's Spring 2005 "Student of the Semester"

Ridgecrest, CA – May 23, 2005

The Cerro Coso Community College Alumni Association has been recognizing the outstanding achievements of Cerro Coso students each semester since 1988. The Alumni Association Board of Directors proudly announced their selection of Michelle Perkins as the recipient of the Spring 2005 "Student of the Semester" award and honored her at a luncheon in early May. Perkins, who graduated with honors on May 13th, received her Associate in Arts Degree. Perkins has been very active in student government, participating on several other College committees, and is active with several community organizations.

Perkins was nominated by speech instructor, Janis Jamison. Jamison stated, "Michelle cares very much about the College and her fellow students. She is a hard worker and will aid other students whenever they need her help. Michelle always sets a good example for her classmates and is a person of which this College can be proud. This girl is going places."

Perkins also received the endorsement of chemistry/physical science faculty member Dr. John Stenger-Smith "Michelle is truly an exceptional student. She has been an active, participating member in the Program Review Process for Physical Science Technology".
"The Alumni Association is very proud to bestow this award on Ms. Perkins acknowledging her dedication and many achievements by
selecting her as the Spring 2005 "Students of the Semester," stated Director of Alumni Relations, Joann Handeland. Perkins was presented with a framed certificate of appreciation, an alumni pin, a $200 cash award, and a special Cerro Coso logo remembrance gift. Her name was also added to a perpetual plaque honoring all recipients of this distinguished award.
Overall GPA, class participation, extracurricular activities, and community involvement were all considered in the selection process for this award. The Alumni Association Board of Directors would like to congratulate Michelle Perkins on her numerous accomplishments and for being an inspiration to all Cerro Coso students and staff!
