CCCC to Hold Community Education Classes in Kern River Valley

Kern River Valley, CA – January 16, 2004

Cerro Coso Community College Kern River Valley Campus is offering the following community education courses this spring.

Classical Guitar Technique

Enrich yourself with a skill that will last a lifetime and discover the magic of the classical guitar. With step-by-step instruction students will find that reading music is easy, will learn the art of painless practicing, and will gain the techniques necessary to master the instrument. Classes focus on solo and ensemble music, performance skills, reading, tome quality, and overall understanding of the classical guitar. A recital will be held at the end of every session to showcase each student's accomplishments. Sessions include eight one-hour classes and each class meets once a week beginning on January 21, 2004. This program is designed to be progressive, future sessions will include classes specifically for continuing students, and classes are available for all skill levels. Students under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Cost for this class is $80.00.

Cerro Coso Orchestra

The Cerro Coso Orchestra performs a variety of styles of music such as classical and semi-classical movie and stage musicals, popular music, music from around the world, and big band/jazz arrangements. Students are required to participate in two concerts per semester at the Kernville Elementary School. All students should be able to read music and be able to play all major scales. Woodwind or brass musicians should have at least one year playing experience or instruction. String musicians should have at least three years of instruction or be capable of playing in third position. Percussionists are admitted after an interview with the instructor. Class fee is $25.00 and class will meet on Monday's from 5:00-9:00 pm beginning on January 26, 2004.

Beginning Watercolor

Come and explore the fun techniques of watercolor. Step-by-step instructions will lead the student through many projects and demonstrations in a progressive approach that is comfortable to beginners and challenging to more advanced painters. Art basics and color theory will also be covered. During the first class Jan Su, instructor, will make a demonstration and discuss materials needed at which time students may sign up for the class. Class will be held on Tuesdays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon beginning January 27, 2004 at a cost of $45.00 for the class and $25 for the materials.

Line Dance

This class teaches students various dance sequences and will help promote social interaction. Student's will improve their sense of rhythm, short term memory and enhance self esteem. Step in line and join the fun on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 to 3:00 PM beginning January 22, 2004 for a $25.00 fee.

Students may register and pay the Community Education fees at the College office located at 5520 Lake Isabella Blvd. during regular business hours or with the instructor at the first class.
