Cerro Coso students have earned a new Business Administration certificate in less than one year. "Beginning in the Fall of 2002 Cerro Coso Community College students accepted a challenge to earn a Business Administration certificate in less than twelve months. With hard work and intense commitment, these students have met the challenge and will be awarded their certificates at the May 16 graduation ceremony," stated Assistant Professor Rebecca Chavez. The graduates are part of a new program at Cerro Coso that provides students the opportunity to complete all coursework for the certificate in twelve months.

The Business Administration Certificate of Completion is designed for students seeking employment as entry-level managers or administrative support supervisors. All courses are transferable to the CSU system. Students must attend class two nights a week and on Saturday. Courses generally last for four weeks and are offered in a logical sequence to enhance retention and skill building. "Many students who are completing the program stated that they would not have gone back to school without the assurance of completing the requirements in one year. They also feel that they have earned better grades by concentrating on one subject at a time," continued Chavez. One student, Carolyn Reed shared that her supervisor has noticed an improvement in her job performance as a result of taking the classes. Student Rose Clark noted "It is a perfect program for people working full time."

The program will be offered this coming Fall but, students can begin the program with a course this summer. More information can be obtained by calling Rebecca Chavez, Assistant Professor, at 384-6313 or going online to the business programs website www.cerrocosobiz.com.
